Workshop Description: We’ll begin the morning with some exercises in watercolor technique and we’ll explore a brief, yet fascinating history of the art of botanical watercolor painting. We’ll then begin our specimen study with a flat wash and start to build volume and detail over the course of the afternoon with careful layering and observation.
Materials to be provided: Watercolor pan set and palette, 11×14 hot press watercolor paper, pencils, sketch paper, rulers, water jars and paper towels.
About the instructor: Erin Rice has a Bachelor’s degree in fine arts and graduate degrees in art history. In addition to running the education programs here at the Ipswich Museum, she also teaches art history at Montserrat College of Art and paints in her free time.
