2025 Summer Exhibition

Francis H. Richardson: The Ipswich Years

This summer exhibition offered a rare and personal look at the work of Francis H. Richardson (1859-1935), one of notable and a contemporary of Arthur Wesley Dow, Henry Kenyon, and Carl Nordstrom. Curated by his granddaughter, Stephanie Gaskins, the exhibition focused on Richardson’s time living and working in Ipswich, drawing primarily from the family collection. Many of the featured works still hang in the house and adjacent studio Richard built in the early 1900s-spaces.

Featuring family portraits, seasonal New England scenes, and late 19th-century motifs, Francis H. Richardson: The Ipswich Years explored the artist’s evolving process, his deep connection to place, and the legacy of a life shaped by art and home.
