DESCRIPTION:The story begins in 1639 when a group of 60 settlers from Yorkshire\, England made their way to the new world. In time they realized the importance of a mill and it fell on the wealthiest in the group\, Thomas Nelson to make it happen.  He was given 36 acres and hired Richard Holmes to design and build the mill.  He constructed the dam\, the aqueduct\, the mill pond\, the mill itself and there is speculation that he constructed the beautiful keystone barrel arch bridge. \nSpeaker: Cheryl Cahill\, retired middle school principal and home-owner of this special property will talk about its fascinating history. This workshop will briefly look at the traditional elements and principles of landscape painting\, and use these tools to inform and create a compelling abstract work of art. This workshop is designed to provide the structure necessary to enter an abstract painting language with intention and ease\, while still providing space for freedom and intuition. Landscape\, Color & Abstraction is designed to help the artist better understand composition\, value\, color\, and most importantly\, how to become a looser and more expressive painter. \nWhat to expect: The morning will be spent exploring a few sequential exercises and the afternoon will be an open studio format. DESCRIPTION:In this one hour talk\, Dr. Charlotte Gordon tells the story of Bradstreet’s life and explains the importance of her poetry. As the first published poet from the New World\, Bradstreet establishes a new “plaine style” of writing and was the first to articulate a new “American” identity for the British colonists. \nCharlotte is an award-winning author whose work has appeared in the New York Times\, Wall Street Journal\, and the Washington Post\, among other publications. She is a distinguished professor of the Humanities at Endicott College.  She speaks frequently at colleges and conferences\, and has been interviewed on numerous radio and television programs.
